On Nov. 10, pictures of active and retired armed forces drew students’ attention as they walked past the office in occasion of Veteran’s Day. The celebration was organized by junior Lexi Fisher. Fisher asked students to bring her pictures of anyone they knew who was in the military, and she arranged all the pictures with names and ranks on three posters. The event was a reminder of how many hometown people have served and are still serving for our country. “The FCCLA conference I went to a week or so ago lit a spark for me to get more involved and I just thought, ‘well Veterans Day is this month, why not?’” Fisher said. Many students have family members serving, including sophomore Gavin Beesley. His uncle served in the army until six years ago when he was wounded. “It was nice that Lexi could recognize people that have served and I could help recognize my uncle,” he said. There were more than sixty pictures of veterans submitted to Fisher to be hung up. Many students said this was successful, including sophomore Wyatt Schulte. “I thought it was really cool to honor them, and I’m sure they appreciated it,” Schulte said. |
