Trying to find elective classes to fill up your school schedule? Conway Springs High School offers many elective classes to students who are looking for fun classes or ones they think they will need for the future. One such class that is offered is commonly called Home Ec, that is taught by family and consumer science teacher Nancy Julius. “My older sister liked it, so I thought I would try it,” freshman Sarah Salsbery said. Home Ec focuses on basic home skills like sewing and cooking, some of which freshman Annette Berntsen learned before she joined the class. “Right now, we’re learning the basics of cooking,” Berntsen said. The class went through community services and sewing the first semester, which is called Intro to Human Services, and is now in the second semester, which is called Career and Life Planning. Home Ec is often a starting point for students who want to be proficient in a skill like cooking or sewing, so it is a common class that students choose. “I think this class will benefit me and make me a better cook in the future,” freshman Bailey Barkley said. Home Ec is part of the Family, Community and Consumer Services Pathway. |
