Most students play a variety of school sports throughout the year, but senior Aspen Lange and her sister, sophomore Alivia Lange, play softball all year round. Aspen has been playing softball for 10 years and Alivia for nine. With practices lasting for two to three hours and two to three times a week in Newton, the Lange sisters aren't messing around when it comes to softball.

Aspen plays for G2 Heat’s 18’s team, a competitive, year-round team that plays college teams and other competitive teams. Senior Roxanne Heimermann also plays for G2 Heat, but on a different 18’s team. Aspen plays every weekend — weather permitting — in places like Kansas City, Wichita, Hutchinson, Salina, Tulsa, and Dallas. Aspen plays various positions for G2 Heat: third base, first base, outfield and catcher.

“My favorite thing about playing softball is being part of a family,” Aspen said. “You gain all of the people that care about you.”

Alivia also plays for G2 Heat, but on the 16’s team. They play other year-round competitive teams and sometimes college teams as well. She mainly plays catcher and third base. The team plays almost every weekend at tournaments in Kansas City, Wichita, and Hutchinson.

Not only is Alivia playing softball, she’s currently playing high school volleyball.

“The hardest thing is keeping up with all of the injuries and the school responsibilities,” Alivia said.

Aspen has signed to play softball at Garden City Community College, and Alivia is planning on going to college for softball but hasn’t looked at colleges yet.
