Over the summer, Conway Springs High School had the spot for principal open after Lelin George made the decision to become the middle school principal. Brent Harrell said he was excited to get the chance to fill the spot. After being principal at Larned High School for two years, Mr. Harrell decided he wanted something more like his hometown of Greensburg, Kan. He realized Conway Springs had the exact climate he was looking for. So far, he hasn’t been disappointed in the high school. “I love it,” Mr. Harrell said. “The kids are good, and the people are nice. There are nice programs and facilities.” The students also said they were enjoying having Mr. Harrell as a principal. Sophomore Taylor May and senior Luke Ebenkamp said they liked how he wasn’t afraid to do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. “I think he seems pretty cool because he rides a motorcycle,” May joked. “He is really nice, even though that probably sounds cheesy.” Some students, like Ebenkamp, said they were worried that Mr. Harrell was still a Scott City Beaver, instead of a Conway Springs Cardinal. “I don’t like how he came from Scott City,” Ebenkamp said. However, at the beginning of the school year, Mr. Harrell assured the student body that he was no longer a Scott City Beaver. “I’m a loyal Cardinal now,” Mr. Harrell said. “I bleed red in more ways than one.” |
