Cheerleaders spread school spirit to youth

Special performance alert! It is time for the cheerleaders’ cheer clinic. This year, participating girls in kindergarten through fifth grades will be doing a cheer routine and a dance routine to Miley Cyrus’s “Party In The U.S.A.”

All the girls on the cheerleading squad came up with the choreography for “Party In The U.S.A”. The girls will teach the routine to the youth on Feb. 6 and then perform the next day during halftime of the girls’ varsity game vs. Independent.

“I love cheer, and I love seeing other little girls doing what I love to do,” junior Clarissa Snow said.

The cheer clinic is put on every year as a fundraiser for the cheerleaders. This year, instead of performing between the boys’ and girls’ varsity games, the youth will show off their skills during halftime of the girls’ varsity game so parents can take their children home earlier if they wish.

One thing that makes the performance so enjoyable to lead is how girls’ so young get so excited.

“It always amazes me how fast the little kids catch on,” cheer sponsor Jennifer Kunz said.

The youth will also perform during the winter homecoming pep assembly with the cheerleaders.

“I’m most looking forward to working with little kids who don’t know a lot about cheer but want to,” freshman Jaylee Meyer said.
