Last April, the Conway Springs High School drama department put on their first play in seven years, “Blazing Guns at Roaring Gulch”, and were met with success and praise for their efforts. This year, the department will be performing “The Legend of Robin Hood… Sort of.” The group had the first meeting of the year on Dec. 7 during A.P. in production manager and English teacher Tamara Salisbury’s room. Before the meeting, students signed in and stated whether they wanted to be a part of the cast, stage or house managers, set design, lights and sound, or costumes and props. “I just want to be a part of the stage crew to try it out and see what it’s like,” freshman Nicole Campbell said. A total of 32 students attended the first meeting. “I went to the meeting because I want to be a part of the cast, but I don’t know who I want to be yet,” senior Grant Mooneyham said. During the meeting, Mrs. Salisbury and director and St. Joseph Catholic School secretary Kacy Blake went over the descriptions of the characters. They also discussed auditions for cast and interviews for lead crew members, which will both be held on Jan. 16 from noon to 6 p.m. at CSHS. A demerit system will also be implemented this year for those who are late to practices or have absences. “I auditioned for the play last year but didn’t make it,” junior Cassie Brozovich said. “I was lead costume design last year, but I want to audition for a part again this year.” For more information, check out the drama department’s site at hs.usd356.org/activities/drama.
