December means the end of the semester and along with it, finals. Fall finals will take place on Monday, Dec. 19 and Tuesday, Dec. 20. Any student who has perfect attendance for the year or has only missed one day will receive two opt out options, meaning that as long as they have a C or higher in a class, they may opt out of taking the final. Students who have missed two days can still opt out of one final as well. “I don’t like the tests; they take a lot of studying,” senior Sheilah Lange said, “but I like being able to opt out of finals so my grades don’t drop.” Students who meet all of their A.R. goals can also opt of of one final. A.R. also goes in as a grade in English at the end of the semester, an addition that some students don’t like. “I don’t like A.R. being part of the grade,” senior Addie Jenkins said. “It’s very stressful for students.” If students choose to opt out of a final, they may leave the school property with parents’ consent, but if they do not have a permission slip, they are to stay in the commons area or library during the time of the final. “[The incentive program] is complicated but rewarding for those with good attendance,” freshman Cody Jones said. “I’m excited to get out of school for Christmas break.” Fall finals will be as follows:
*Students will be dismissed at 3 p.m. Dec. 19 due to a 92% overall attendance rate for the semester.
