Conway Springs hosted a novice Scholars Bowl meet Nov. 11. Twelve schools, including Conway Springs, attended the event that started at 4:15.

“During the meet we did good, but I think we can do better next time,” freshman Courtnee Wisdom said.

Questions in the rounds come from the categories of social studies, language arts, mathematics, science, fine arts, miscellaneous and year in review. Conway Springs first played against Arkansas City, winning the round 60-30. They next played El Dorado, Bishop Carroll, Wellington and Independent. They ended the night with a record of 3-2. Conway Springs tied for second in pool play, but ended up with third based on head to head competition, so the team did not advance to semifinals. The Cardinals ended the meet with 220 total points.

The team members said they knew what they needed to work on next time.

“Buzz in faster if you know the question,” sophomore Lucas Mies said. “Don’t second guess yourself.”

After the meet, sponsors Mrs. Pauly and Mrs. Kitch provided students, helpers, and teachers with pizza from Pizza Hut in celebration of a job well done said sophomore Mary Berntsen.

Stressed under the pressure of 30 seconds, sophomores Lucas Mies, Michelle Willson and Mary Berntsen work out a math problem at the home novice Scholars Bowl meet Nov. 11.
