The Regional Journalism competition was held Feb. 26 at Emporia State University. Eleven students from the newspaper and yearbook staffs went to the 3A and 4A Regional Journalism competition. “My favorite part of regionals was getting to hang out with Mrs. Salisbury all day,” senior Brianna Carter said. Overall, seven students qualified for State competition in 12 different entries. The students who qualified for state are seniors Danica Mercer, Brittany Pauly and Hayley Smith, juniors Farrah Gilmere and Tiffany Willson and sophomores Jessica Mies and Michelle Willson. Out of the winners, there were three first places, two second places, three third places and four honorable mentions. “I loved the competition, and I even won a T-shirt from a drawing,” Tiffany said. All the students that received a first through honorable mention will now proceed to State on May 2 in Lawrence, Kan. “I am looking forward to going to Lawrence with all the other girls,“ sophomore Mies said. |
