Between the Novice and Varsity Scholars Bowl teams, students from all classes in the high school compete against other schools to test their knowledge from history to science and current events. Senior Courtnee Wisdom said that Scholars Bowl meets on Tuesday mornings and Wednesday afternoons to practice. These practices consist of a range of questions to test the students’ intelligence in multiple areas. Until their first meet on Oct. 18, and after, the students will continue to meet with each other and test their knowledge. “The atmosphere of the high school team is more serious,” freshman Sadie Schmanke said. Even though the Scholars Bowl team isn’t acknowledged as much as other extracurriculars, students say they work hard at practice. “The practices are informative and fun. I learn a lot,” senior Caylee Harrington said. From the newer participants to the veterans on the team, each person takes responsibility for learning the material, and each has a different area of focus for helping the team. No one on the team can predict how the season will go this year. The team has been practicing since September, and through the serious atmosphere and the different intelligence strengths, the team is working toward success. “I’m excited for the season, but I have no idea how it’s going to go,” freshman Lucy Boyles said. |
