Sophomore Dawson Tarrant is a member of a band named the Treblemakers. He plays a bluegrass style of music with five other band members at many events and competitions. He most recently played during the afternoon at Fall Fest Sept. 27. “I started playing guitar about six years ago when I found my grandpa’s guitar,” Tarrant said. “That’s what really made me want to play.” After playing his original guitar for a while, Tarrant bought a Collings D1A guitar, which is what he still plays now. “I have been a part of the Treblemakers for five years now,” Tarrant said. “We go to Silver Dollar City in Missouri and compete in the Youth and Bluegrass Single Microphone Championship. We got seventh place in the competition and are going to Tennessee for the first time this year.” Tarrant and the rest of his band go to about 20 performances within three months, or about 30 a year, according to Tarrant, so he no longer has to deal with nerves. “I don’t get nervous in front of a crowd,” he said. “I like playing for people because I like to see the smile it puts on their faces, and I know that they’re enjoying themselves.” |
