Students involved in band and vocal music receive the opportunity to improve their music skill every year by participating in League Honor Band and Choir. The selected students met at 8 a.m. on Jan. 13 to ride the bus to Cheney, where the event was held.

The members of the band and choir groups work with guest conductors, who this year were Dr. Frank Perez for band and clinician Connie Donatelli for choir.

“The guest director was really enthusiastic and good at what he does,” junior Brandon Doll, who played bari-saxophone in the band, said.

The performers rehearsed for six hours, so they got to know the students around them and made new friends during the time of practice.

Students who went, including Doll, sophomore Jaylee Meyer and freshman Sadie Schmanke all agreed that was a good experience to get to make new friends and play with a larger amount of people than they are used to.

“One benefit from participating was getting experience playing with a large band, since we are from a smaller band,” Meyer, who played clarinet, said.

After a long day of rehearsal, the students performed that evening.

“I felt refreshed and happy that I did something with the day,” Schmanke, who sang in the choir, said.
