If you’re into sneaky thrillers and possibly some jump scares, “The Body Finder” series, written by Kimberly Derting, is the series for you. It’s a “delectable blend of mystery and romance,” according to The Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books. The first book, “The Body Finder”, was published Jan. 1, 2009. Two years later, Derting finally published the second book, “Desires of the Dead”. In the following three years, she published the last two books, “The Last Echo” and “Dead Silence”. The books center around Violet Ambrose, the main character, as she deals with her secret ability. Ever since she was little, she has felt the echoes that the dead leave behind in the world and the imprints that attach to their killers. The 16-year-old has kept her morbid ability to sense dead bodies a secret from everyone except her family and her childhood best-friend turned boyfriend, Jay Heaton. That is, until FBI forensic psychologist Sara Priest discovers her talent and invites Violet to use her gift to track down murderers. Now, as she works with other similarly talented individuals through the FBI, it’s her job to help those who have been murdered by bringing their killers to justice. However, through her helping victims, killers become aware of Violet and do their best to get rid of her. Once Violet begins to learn of the killers’ presence, she pushes herself to have a normal life. After reading the whole series, the final book would have to be my favorite. When she believes she’s living a normal life, she begins to notice her own echo after the tragedy in the third book. This book series is my favorite. These books are the types of books that you just can’t put down. I give this series five cardinal heads out of five. ![]() |
