On Nov. 4, the Cardinal football team took on the Collegiate Spartans at Collegiate for the bi-district football game. The Cardinals started off fast with the first touchdown of the game, scored by senior Travis Wood. The boys were ahead at halftime 28-14.

“I was happy with how the guys were playing and all the energy we were showing out there and enthusiasm,” Head Coach Matt Biehler said. “I was concerned about going into the second half and continuing that.”

In the second half of the game, Collegiate began to pull ahead. At the end of the game, the Cardinals came up short 34-56.

Losing this game ended the 2014 football season for the Cardinals. For the seniors on the team, it also meant an ending to their high school football careers and marked their last game playing football as a Conway Springs Cardinal.

“It’s heartbreaking because I know it’s the last time I’ll play on the same field as those guys,” senior Logan Creek said, “but I know it’s time to start thinking about going to the next level and playing college football.”

With a record of 8-2, the Cardinals had a winning season, with their only losses being to Chaparral and Collegiate. Overall, the team wasn’t too disappointed in the season.

“It was a fun year playing with all of my friends,” Wood said. “I was proud of our team.”

Coach Biehler wished the season would have ended differently, but he said he was still proud of how the boys battled through adversity.

Before the game, captains from both teams meet. Seniors Luke Ebenkamp, Luke Fisher, JJ Fisher, and Travis Wood are the captains for Conway Springs.
