“I’m so excited for football season this year,” freshman returner JoEllen Reep said. On April 12, the annual cheer tryouts were held. The participants started practicing Monday, Apr. 9 at 6:20 a.m. and continued to practice every morning until tryouts after school on Thursday. There were eight spots open on the team available and seven students tried out. In order to make the team, participants had to get a score of 318 or higher, which was 70 percent. “Tryouts were good; we learned a lot of new stuff,” sophomore Jaylee Meyers said. The cheerleading sponsor the past three years has been Jennifer Kunz. As she has decided to hang up her poms, the new cheer coach will be former Conway Springs cheerleading coach Aimee Lackey. “I think tryouts went well,” Mrs. Kunz said. “The girls worked hard and did a good job.” The participants who made the cheer team this year are returning cheerleaders freshmen Americas Dalbom and JoEllen Reep and sophomore Jaylee Meyers; and first-time cheerleader sophomore Cierra Hiser and incoming freshmen Apryl Dalbom, Emma Zoglmann and Rosalyn Zoglmann. “I'm excited because it is a great experience and I'm going to make new friends,” Hiser said. |
