This coming weekend, the boys varsity tennis team will be traveling to Collegiate for the Tournament of Champions. The meet starts at 9 a.m. and will go late into the afternoon. The boys and girls varsity teams go every year. This is one of the biggest meets of the season. “The team is pretty solid, and I feel like we will do good,” junior Derek Pauly said. Head Coach Chris Bellar prepares the boys for their meets by conditioning them and working them hard so that they will do their best every meet, every match and every point. “Tournament of Champs is usually tough, but it’s good competition, and it’s also a good way to practice competing at a higher level,” senior Grant Bellar said. “I think I will do better this year because the goal is always to improve.” Their hard work has paid off in the past. The team has gone to state for several years, and in 2012 they were state champions. “The season has gone great; we’re pretty good,” junior Denver Sones said. “We’re going to do good.”
