Before and during the tennis season, the girls work many hours and get on the daily grind to improve every chance they can. Working on old shots and new, head coach Chris Bellar said he is focused to getting every girl to do her best. Many players also have goals set for themselves. “One of my goals for this season is to win 75 percent of my matches,” freshman and JV player Molly Schmanke said. One of the more famous quotes Coach Bellar and assistant coach Justin Regehr like to use is, “Excellence is not an act but a habit,” because they say they believe doing an action repeatedly and making it a habit it will help players to go the extra mile and win matches. “I think this year will go good because we have a lot of experienced and talented players,” junior and varsity player Kalie Jones said. The first JV home game was Sept. 5, at which the girls took first place. As they grow as individuals, the girls also grow together by the bond of being part of a team and that being a big part of everyone's mind set, to help each other improve and achieve their individual goals and their team goals. “Personally I feel I have improved on my strokes,” said sophomore and JV player Jera Wolke. “Playing doubles this year, I’ve learned to communicate, have fun and work as a team.” The next home meet will be a varsity meet Sept. 15, starting at 2:20 p.m.
