On Feb. 29, the boys varsity basketball went head to head against the Bluestem Lions in the first round of sub-state. The boys won 57-37. All together, the boys had 10 steals and 26 rebounds. Senior Dylan Murphy had a 100 percent shooting average, six rebounds and one block. Senior Anthony Becker also had a 100 percent shooting average and one block. Junior Jacob Winter contributed four rebounds and four steals, and junior Dawson Tarrant shot and made two out of two 3-pointers. “As a team, we put out a pretty good effort,” sophomore Christian Hedrick said. “Individually, I felt like I didn’t do as well as I could have.” The boys were in preparation for the next sub-state game, which took place March 3 against Wichita Independent in Cheney. “I think it will be a good game,” senior Lucas Shaffer said. “Whoever scores more points will win.” Despite the positive outlook, the game ended the team’s season with a loss of 45-47. Throughout the season, the boys pushed each other to be the best players they could be, individually and as a team. “Here we play as a family, we get along and it’s about the team,” junior Gunnar Denny said. |
