On April 7, the Cardinals hosted their annual track meet. The field events started it off with shot put, discus, javelin, pole vault, high, triple, and long jump. Junior Kenzie Biehler took first in both the discus and shot put. Sophomore Daniel Becker took first in discus, and multiple other throwers and jumpers also placed within the top six. “It was scary going in,” Biehler said. The national anthem and the running events started at six. Both boys and girls were successful in getting in the top six of their events for most of the meet. Senior Marcus Smith placed sixth in the 1600 meter, or mile, run. “I did decent, but not as good as I could have,” he said. As it was a participation meet, there were as many athletes as the coaches could send at each event. Sophomore Makenzie Curry described the time it took for each event to be completed because of the increased number of participants. “It was very long, but I think we performed well, considering the pressure of being the home team,” she said. There were no team scores for this track meet, but Curry, Biehler, and Smith all said they thought their teammates performed well. They said their season goals consist of getting better and going to state. |
