The girls varsity basketball team was rolling along this season ranked 7 in the Garden Plain substate, despite the team’s 14-6 record on the season. The bracket was full of competitive teams, as the number 8 seed even still had a record above .500. The girls were set to go against Cheney Feb. 27 at Cheney High School. Both Cheney and Conway Springs were in the top of the Central Plains League. “Our goals were to continue to work as a team and play with no regrets,” senior Janae Pauly said. The game was close throughout and ended that way, with Conway Springs losing to Cheney 34-37. Sophomore Mackenzie Curry said she was sad about the loss. “I felt that we should have won,” Curry said. The most memorable part of the night for Curry however, was that they had a huge crowd to cheer them on. The girls also talked about their memorable talk with head coach Pat Carl after the game. “We were definitely disappointed and sad but happy for the experience, especially with the seniors,” junior Shannon Drouhard said. Cheney High School ended up as state runner-up. |
