Cardinals set program record of points scored

As the stands filled on Sept. 1, the football team warmed up to play their first game against Belle Plaine. Kickoff was at 7 p.m., and Conway started off strong and at halftime was up 66-12.

After the starters were pulled in the third quarter, the Cardinals’ backups scored a total of three more times. Head coach Matt Biehler said it wasn’t intentional and that the points were scored from more than 30 yards from the end zone.

“It was a good experience to play with more experienced people, and it was really fun,”  said sophomore Brandon Solomon.

The team dominated over Belle Plaine 98-18, giving the Cardinals their first win of the season.

“I think we played very well for it being our first game of the year,” senior Brenden Pauly said. “We executed the plays very well and had good stops on defense.”

Despite the success of the first game, the team still knows it has challenges ahead. As the Cardinals prepare for the rest of the season, one of their goal is making it to state with hard work and dedication, taking it game by game.

“We will take it one week at a time, working on weakness and discipline,” Coach Biehler said.
