Dance and Cheer worked hard all summer preparing for their camps. On June 12, the dance team left for camp at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina. At camp, the team performed a dance together and did a drill called drill queen to see who could perform their regular routines the best by memory. They got 3rd overall in their home routine and were awarded a leadership award. “Some of our strengths are that we all can dance pretty good together,” junior Audrey Doffing said. “Some of our weaknesses are that we all don’t really get along that well though.” The dance team also had a significant amount of girls who tried out and five new girls who joined the team. “It is so nerve-racking, but I do enjoy it,”new member and sophomore Madison Pauly said. “I think we have a lot of good dancers on the team this year.” On June 13, the cheerleaders left for their camp. It was held at Butler Community College in El Dorado. At their camp, the cheerleaders learned some new stunts and cheers and more proper ways to perform them. Three of the cheerleaders received an award for good cheerleader participants. The whole team received a trophy for most improved. “We did pretty good, but I wish we could have done a little better in camp,” junior Rachel Stuhlsatz said. “We are going to try and do more stunts for the season.”
