The girls varsity basketball team will travel to Mulvane Jan. 22-27 for the Wildcat Classic Tournament. This is just the second time CSHS has competed in the tournament, and last year the Cardinals came home with the second place title. The girls will be entering the tournament as the no. two seed with an overall record of 7-3. “We’ve been working hard in practice, working on our offense and defense,” junior Makenzie Curry said. Other teams competing in the tournament include the hosting Mulvane Wildcats, Collegiate Spartans, Winfield Vikings, Andale Indians, and Ark City Bulldogs. Although CSHS will be the smallest school at the tourney, senior Sabrina Bellar has high hopes. “We expect to do well and compete well,” she said. “We hope to go to the championship on Saturday; that’s the goal.” For their first game today, the girls will face the 2-6 Winfield Vikings with a six o’clock tip-off time. Regardless of the outcome, they will move on to play the Collegiate Spartans Jan. 25. Their final game will depend on the outcomes of both sides of the bracket. “I think we have a lot to prove in this tournament and a great opportunity to compete with larger schools,” senior Lacey Pauly said. “I’m excited for it and expect great things from our girls.” |
