After winning league tennis on Oct. 5, all six varsity girls qualified for regionals tennis. Regionals were on Oct. 9. The meet was hosted by Kiowa-South Barber. Ten other schools competed at the tournament.

The matches began at 11:30 a.m. Juniors Kalie Jones and Sam Koch placed second in doubles overall. Junior Erica Ebenkamp placed second in singles and sophomore Sabrina Bellar placed fourth in singles. Seniors Tiffany Willson and Ashley O’Neal lost their first match to Hoisington.

With those placings, Conway Springs ended in first as a team at regionals. Bellar, Ebenkamp, Jones, and Koch all qualified for state.

State tennis was hosted by Kansas City Christian High School and was held at the Harmon Tennis Complex in Prairie Village, Kan. Jones and Koch placed third in doubles.

“We competed very well,” Jones said. “We are excited about this year’s placing, but even more excited to take it all next year.”

In singles, Bellar placed sixth and Ebenkamp placed twelfth.

“I ended up doing really well, and I was really excited to place sixth,” Bellar said.

Overall, the Conway Springs girls tennis team was state runner up.

“The girls came together in the end and improved as a team,” coach Justin Regehr said.
