The boys tennis season is coming to close. Twelve players went to varsity league tennis, which was May 4 at Wichita State University. The top six players who qualified will go on to regionals.

Regionals for 3-2-1A will be Saturday, May 9 in Kiowa-South Barber at the high school. Matches will start at 9 a.m. The singles players will be seniors Grant Bellar and Jerod Mies. The No. 1 doubles team will be juniors Jed Chitwood and Derek Pauly, and the No. 2 doubles team will be sophomores Lucas Mies and Jacob Winter. Eight other schools will be competing at regionals.

“I expect them to compete and get after it,” Coach Chris Bellar said, “and play our best tennis.”

The top six who qualify for state will travel to Emporia, Kan., to compete May 15 and 16 at Emporia High School. The last year Conway Springs High School won 3-2-1A State Tennis was 2012.

“I think we have a good chance to take the whole team to state this year,” Grant said.
