As the school year winds down to the last full week, the track team prepares for regionals and the boys tennis team advances to state. The boys tennis team competed at the South Barber Regional tennis meet May 7. The whole team advanced to state: doubles partners and seniors Jed Chitwood and Derek Pauly; doubles partners and juniors Lucas Mies and Jacob Winter and singles players seniors Kolton Alloway and John Andra.

“We played pretty good, had some tough matches and long points,” Andra said.

The boys will travel to Riverside in Wichita May 13 and 14 for the state meet.

“I’m excited, and I think we have a good chance at getting in the top eight,” Mies said.

The JV track team travels to Garden Plain for league while the varsity travels to Cheney May 12. The top three members of each event will advance to regionals May 20 at Cimarron.

“I’ve definitely excelled since last year,” junior Marcus Berntsen said.

Berntsen is one of the top three 110m hurdlers at Conway Springs High School and one of the top 10 in the state. Freshman Makenzie Curry also has high hopes for regionals.

“My goals are to not do bad, not be last, and try hard,” Curry said.

Those who place at regionals with cutoff times or distances will qualify to compete at the state meet at Wichita State University May 27.
