Varsity girls tennis placed third at their first meet of the season at Wellington on Aug. 29. Finding gold and giving the Cardinals a great start, senior Sabrina Bellar placed first in singles.

“I had a really good comeback,” she said. “I was down 1-6 and I came back and won 8-6.”

The second varsity meet was Aug. 31 at Maize. Juniors Samantha Osner and Leslie Mies played doubles together and shared a few memorable moments on the courts.

“I played doubles with Leslie. She hit a girl with the ball. We both laughed, and the girl got mad,” Osner said.

With many more meets ahead, the girls are working to improve their goals. Junior Molly Schmanke said she is looking forward to the Tournament of Champions, held at the Wichita Collegiate School. This tournament is Sept. 23.

“I haven’t been, she said, “but I hear it’s really good competition and it’s an all day thing, so I’m pretty excited for that.”
