With more than thirty seasoned players, nine of them returning seniors, the volleyball team couldn’t have been more ready to start the 2014 season. The varsity girls said they have high expectations for themselves.

“I want to surprise people.,” senior Sara Echelberry said. “No one’s expecting us to be great,” senior Sara Echelberry said.

The season started off with the Red/White Scrimmage on Aug. 28.

Afterward, several of the players had different areas they said they thought they needed to work on.

“I thought we could have done better on coverage, especially hitting coverage,” JV player and junior Kristen Hilger said.

However, Hilger also said she had high hopes for the JV squad.

“I think we have a good array of skills, and if we work hard at it, we can beat a lot of teams this year,” she said.

Freshman Cassie Brozovich also saw areas that could be improved for the freshman/sophomore team.

“We could have done better, but we did well,” Brozovich said. “Most of the points were given. And there were a lot of dropped balls that shouldn’t have happened.”

Brozovich also said she thought they’d do well this season.

“I’m looking forward to all of our teams using our talents and am expecting a lot,” Brozovich said.

Echelberry also had something to look forward to this season.

“Kickin’ butt and takin’ names,” Echelberry said.

Varsity/JV’s next game is at Halstead on Sept. 11. The next freshman/sophomore game is Sept. 8 at Belle Plaine.
